Chamber SWLA Delegation Descends on State Capitol
From a standing room only luncheon at the Louisiana State Museum to crowded halls in the Capitol Building to the grounds of the Governor's Mansion, the Chamber SWLA's delegation was hard to miss in Baton Rouge on April 3. The Annual Chamber SWLA Day at the Louisiana Legislature gave more than 160 participants a chance to see and be seen in the State Capitol.
“The Chamber SWLA Day at the Louisiana Legislature is a forum for our members to meet with legislative representatives and key administrative policy makers in Baton Rouge. This trip is a means for the business community of Southwest Louisiana to share its agenda with our government regarding major issues such as higher education reform, taxes, and economic development,” said Chamber SWLA President/ CEO George Swift.
Participants were bussed to the Capitol grounds for a day of activities, starting with a lunch program at the State Museum where they heard from House Speaker Chuck Kleckley and the SWLA legislative delegation, Commissioner of Administration and Lake Charles native Paul Rainwater, Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain, Rich McClure with the US Chamber of Commerce, and Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne. After a tour of the museum, the group headed across the street to the Capitol building to observe the House and Senate in action. The day concluded with the popular SWLA Shrimp Boil at the Governor's Mansion.
This day was made possible due to the generosity of the following sponsors: Cheniere Energy, Inc., AT&T, Capital One Bank, CITGO, Stockwell Sievert Law Firm, ConocoPhillips, Entergy, Jeff Davis Bank, L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort, Hotel Indigo, Signs Now, Kleinpeter Dairy and the Beer Industry League of Louisiana.
